The Amazon frontier runs across several Brazilian states. Batch 01 sits in Para, on land that was cleared decades ago and left to harden in the sun. We plant with Rioterra, based in Rondonia, with Agroforestree, and with local partners and farming families who collect the seeds and tend the plots. Every tree is placed by hand, mapped, and monitored.

How it grows

From one seedling to a working forest

    Year 1

    Five trees and shrubs go in as one cluster.

  2. Young agroforestry plot with saplings and banana plants

    First shade, first fruit, soil starts holding water.

Brazil nut tree

Bertholletia excelsa

Can live over 500 years and only fruits in intact forest, so a Brazil nut tree is a sign the ecosystem is whole again.

Logged almost to disappearance across Rondonia. Every one we plant is a return.

Acai palm

Euterpe oleracea

Feeds families through the year and gives the young forest its first economic value.

Cumaru

Dipteryx odorata

Deep-rooted and drought-resistant, it holds the soil together while the canopy closes.

Ipe amarelo

Handroanthus serratifolius

Flowers gold across the whole crown, visible from the air when the forest is coming back.

Rondonia: young agroforestry plot closing canopy

This block in Rondonia was planted on former cattle pasture and now borders standing rainforest on two sides. The pioneer species have closed most of the canopy, which shades out invasive grass and keeps the soil moist through the dry months. Acai and cacao are growing underneath, and the access track on the west side is the route the crew uses for monitoring and harvest. The same planting model runs in Para, so members hold trees across both states.
